History:
The Scottish Terrier was developed in the rocky terrain of Scotland to
hunt small game animals and vermin. They share a common ancestry with
other terriers from the region, the Dandie Dinmont, Cairn, Skye and West
Highland.
Temperament:
The Scottie is a tough independent dog that still retains a strong
hunting instinct. They can be good with respectful children but will
snap if they are teased or cornered.
Maintenance:
Their thick wiry coat needs to be brushed regularly and trimmed or
stripped several times a year. They need plenty of exercise to keep them
from getting in to trouble. A bored Scottie will dig, chew or find other
ways to amuse themselves. They bark quite a bit and will loudly announce
any infringement on their territory. This breed can be quite stubborn,
plenty of patience is required for obedience training.
