History:
Rather than being a well-defined breed, the Jack Russell Terrier is a
type of dog with a wide genetic variety. Some are taller, some have
longer bodies, and there are three types of coat. Bred for hunting and
working ability, the Jack Russell owes its existence to Reverend John
Russell, a man dedicated to breeding the finest strain of working
terriers in the mid 1800's.
Temperament:
This breed is characterized by high energy and strong hunting instincts.
They will chase small animals and dig up the yard in search of prey.
They can be good with children and other animals if supervised, but will
not back down or take abuse from others. This trait can get them in to
trouble with small children or larger animals. They will be happiest if
they have a large securely fenced yard to run in, but can adjust to
apartment living with a concerted effort to meet their exercise needs.
