History:
The German Shorthaired Pointer was developed from crossing hunting
breeds to create a versatile all-purpose hunting dog. The Spanish
Pointer, St. Hubert's hound, foxhounds and the English Pointer were all
used in this breed's development. This breed is a popular hunting dog,
companion and show dog.
Temperament:
The German Shorthaired Pointer requires a serious commitment from its
owner to meet its significant exercise needs. They can be a wonderful
pet for an active family, but if not sufficiently exercised will become
nervous and destructive. They are intelligent and easy to train. This
breed is quite affectionate and gentle with children.
